Arden
by Wanda Harrison

Last week I incorrectly stated that the first Amnesty week was May 15 to 19, as per the Township page. This date has ben corrected and should read May 19 to May 25. Sorry for the mistake.

The Kennebec Recreation Committee has named April 25 Adopt a Road Day. Volunteers will gather at the Community Centre at 9am on the 25th to receive their route, trash bags and water for the Committee’s Annual Trash Bash. Volunteers should supply their own gloves, wear boots and bring bug spray.

The Arden Legion has scheduled their yearly AGM Saturday April 27, at 11am at the branch. This is the time when the members will hear a recap of the year’s activities and vote in their new executive for 2024/2025. It is your duty as a member to attend this meeting and vote your choice. The Legion also asked me to remind all that there are Darts, Monday, Wednesday and Friday evening along with Bingo Thursday evening at 6am sharp and Euchre following at 7:30pm.

Please do not forget the Sharbot Lake and District Lion’s “All you can Eat Breakfast, April 27, 8am to 11am. This month the proceeds will be remitted to Villages Beautiful. Remember your own platted and utensils.

The Kennebec Rec Committee and their Kids Klub program are hosting a Mother’s Day Market, Saturday May 4, 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Kennebec Community Centre. There will be many vendors with their specific crafts, a bake sale along with a Silent Auction. For more information, please contact Samantha Bradley at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

The Rec Committee has asked me to remind everyone about the weekly programs they sponsored; Yoga Monday mornings 9:30am, Kids Klub 5pm, and Euchre at 7pm Tuesdays, Wednesday Tai Chi, and Thursdays Stretch and Strengthen 9:30 am and Kids Klub Thursday 5:00 pm. All above programs are held at the Community Centre. Look for summer programs this year. Types, times and days will follow in future columns.

Springwood Cottage Resort will be putting on their Community Yard Sale and Craft Fair again this year on Saturday, May 11, from 9am to 1pm at 1018 Blue Heron Ridge Road, Arden.   If you are looking for furniture, water toys, household goods, crafts and much more, come over on May 11th and get some great bargains. There will be a cash canteen on site as a fundraiser for the Arden United Church.   The hosts would love to see you at this popular annual event.  A limited number of tables are still available, please contact Jackie at This email address is being protected from spambots. It was great to see The Volunteer Kennebec Fire Fighters receive their Annual awards last week. Chief Jeff Matson received a 40-year Award, his mom Betty 45 years, along with other along with other volunteers. This brave group regularly sacrifice their own safety to assist others, in a time of crisis. We thank each and every one of them for their Service, as does our entire community.

We continue to hold Dawn Hansen in our thoughts.

Henderson
Jean Brown

We are truly grateful to so many wonderful folks who are making a difference in Henderson and area.  Ron Lemke and Brooke Gunsinger offered musical spiritual inspiration on Sunday at Harlowe Wesleyan Church bringing joy to all. Many folks are helping in our area- including Eileen Flieler and her daughter-in-law who decorated Pine Meadow with special flowers last week, and also many folks cleared up the roadsides of trash in honour of Earth Day. Speaking of thanks- thanks to the municipal road crews for tuning up Richardson Road and area due to wash outs. We love you all to pieces.

Harlowe rocked on their recent musical afternoon with a large crowd and yummy food! Now this fourth Sat. April 27 Harlowe offers an open mic from 1- 5 and a swell opportunity to sing along, dance up a storm and purchase fantastic food at their event. Beautiful downtown Harlowe is where the action is!!

Sydenham
by Karen Brawley

The weather held off the ‘4 season day change’ for the Sydenham & District Lions Club Members to do a ‘pitch in’ roadside garbage pickup this past Sat, at Railton Rd and Sydenham Road!

Thank you to all who slowed down in speed while driving past, as well as to those who waved, gave thumbs up and even stopped to say ‘thank you’!

Still lots out there, but we made a good dent, with several bags, metal and plastics baskets all collected in a short space and in a short time! Let's hear a ROAR for this dedicated group.

It was so nice to see groups of folks out cleaning up all the roadside rubbish that gathers, remember you can always do it, does take a once a year. Think twice when you’re tossing that wrapper out the window or can.

Don’t forget if you’re looking for a fun time, the ladies auxiliary at the legion host a drop in darts evening, usually every Friday upstairs at the legion (downstairs bar is open for beverages). You don’t need to be skilled just need to want to have fun and make new friends. Cost is $3 for legion members and $5 for non members. Our local legion is always looking for new members.
