March 9 1937 - June 25 2023
Surrounded by the family he loved so much, Gord left us on June 25, 2023. Gord was a passionate, big man, with an even bigger heart. He cared deeply about his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years Carolyn (Cooke), his adult children Elspeth (Sue Rice) of Ottawa, Kate, (Bill McGill) of Toronto, and Malcolm (Suzanne Crudden) of Toronto, and his cherished sister Barbara, of Montreal. He was the proud and encouraging Papa to David and Duncan McGill, and Michael McCulloch.
Gordon was a proud member of the Class of ’59 at Royal Military College where he excelled in varsity hockey and football. He received both BEng and MEng degrees from Queen’s University.
Born in Drumheller Alberta, he lived in Taber, Campbellford, Ajax, and Killaloe. He served as a Canadian Peacekeeper in Egypt, and as a Major in RCEME in West Germany, before returning to Canadian Army Staff College in Kingston. The family later lived in Georgetown, Strathroy and Mississauga where he practiced as a Professional Engineer.
Gord retired to his own little Eden, on Skootamatta Lake. He quickly took to, and loved his new community where he was a contributor to many organizations.
A person of exemplary character, he was unassuming, tender and sincere. We will find strength in what remains behind.
Donations can be made in Gord’s remembrance to the Land of Lakes Emergency Foodbank: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
