As part of their August newsletter, the Community Foundation for Kingston and Area announced grants that have been allocated under two granting streams, and some money will be making its way to Frontenac County agencies as a result.
The Regina Rosen Fund is devoted to food security, and among the seven $1,000 micro-grants announced from the fund, one went to Rural Frontenac Community Services (RFCS) and another to Community Living-North Frontenac (CLNF).
The RFCS grant will be applied to a fund that the agency uses to provide food coupons to the Sharbot Lake Mike Deans Local Grocer for clients in emergency situations.
“Sometimes people need groceries when the Food Bank is not available, and we get contacted because we are open 5 days a week. We provide $25 vouchers to help bridge that gap,” said Louise Moody, Executive Director of RFCS. This funding helps us replenish the reserve that we draw upon for those vouchers.
Community Living-North Frontenac will use their money to augment their “Living, Cooking, Eating” project by creating three raised vegetable garden beds.
Under a larger granting stream, which the Community Foundation is delivering using federal funds, the Community Services Recovery Fund, Southern Frontenac Community Services (SFCS) has received just over $96,000 that will be earmarked to their back office needs, with wa focus on accounting and reporting.
The SFCS grant represents 20% of the $380,000 being allocated through the recovery fund. The rest of the money is being shared by 6 Kingston based organisations, including Kingston 4 PAWS, BGC (formerly Boys and Girls Clubs) Kingston Community Health Centres, Kingston Employment and Youth Services, the Kingston Symphony Orchestra, and Lionhearts. The SFCS grant represents 20% of the $380,000 being allocated through the recovery fund.
