The old yellow school bus that student’s council owned was a big part of getting teams to games and field trips for many groups. Although it didn’t always work the best, it was the best we had! The early 70’s saw a school dance party, live on CKWS television in Kingston. Stuff the Bearcat, a promotional stunt was hosted by CKWS. The main idea was to stuff as many high school students into a 69’ Vauxhall Viva. We won, the small people of SLHS stuffed 29 into the car. Thanks to the leadership and coaching of Mr. & Mrs. Fazackerly our athletic teams were doing very well. Our senior boys volley ball won the Eastern Ontario Secondary School championship two years in a row. Under the watchful eye of Mr. Moorby the Electrical and Radio Club station VE3 SLH met Tuesday & Thursday. Mr. Garrett introduced a lot of budding carpenters to the skill of making grandmother clocks. The boys washroom in the auditorium was converted into a dark room for the photography club. There was a gun club, long before gun safety courses were available. Mr. Garrett taught many boys & girls the safety of owning a gun. We have always been amazed at the bus drivers who transported students to and from school each day. Everett Hearns, Herrick MacDonnell, Joe Vinkle, George Cox, George Cuddy, Edward Whan, Wilfred Frank, Russell Smith, Bob Olmstead were some of these drivers. Mark your calendar for September 16, 2023 from 1-5, 75 Anniversary Meet & Greet.
