The Kennebec Rec Committee is hosting their Annual Halloween Party, Saturday October 28, 10am-1pm. The theme is “Spooky Senses”. Could the spooky smells be popcorn, baked bread or a campfire and how about the sounds of rainfall, thunder or a chainsaw? You’ll have to attend to discover the mystery. There will be games, crafts, tattoos, a costume parade and a hot dog lunch. Costumes are lots of fun but certainly not necessary. The Arden United Church invites you to “give thanks” for the bounty of the season, at their Harvest Breakfast, 8am-11am, October 28 at the United Church. A free will offering is gratefully appreciated.

Also, on the 28th, the Annual Senior Day, sponsored by the Sharbot Lake and District Lions will be held at the Oso Hall beginning at noon. There will be a free luncheon for, all along with an afternoon fun, music and entertainment. Maybe you’ll see some skits performed by the Lions. All Seniors are welcomed to join into this event, and have fun!!

Saturday the 28th also offers an evening of gospel music featuring Risen, at the Arden Wesleyan Church. Music begins at 6:30pm and their will be a light lunch following the concert. A free will offering would be appreciated. For more information, please contact Pastor Vernon Scott at 613-453-1158.

The Kennebec Recreation Committee is sponsoring their annual community shell-out, at the Community Center, 6pm-7pm., set up at 5:30pm. If you miss the trick or treaters at your home, you are invited to join us at the Hall. Do you have a costume? Then wear if you like, and enjoy the children who come to the community centre. The United Church, the Legion and the fire department, along with many other folks in the village, will be waiting for your arrival.

Mountain Grove will be hosting at Smorgasbord Supper, November 4, 5pm-7pm pm. at the Mountain Grove Hall. There will be a variety of home-cooked dishes and desserts available. A free will offering is your admission.

Attention Hunters and those who enjoy a social get-together. The Arden Legion will be holding a Hunters’ Ball, November 18, at the branch. Tickets are $20 per person and will include a luncheon at 10pm, live entertainment and door prizes. The contest rewarding hunters, in various categories, is returning to Arden. Tickets can be purchased, prior to November 4, at C4 or the Legion for $10each.

Cloyne - Northbrooke

All witches and goblins get ready for pumpkin painting at the Lions Hall in Northbrook on Saturday October 28th 10am-noon. The children will be provided with pumpkins to paint and refreshments to follow.

Later that day get ready for a scary walk through the hallways in the Haunted Lions Mansion. Come join in the fun, of you dare, between 2-4 pm

The Lions Fall hunter’s toll road will be in full swing starting Thursday November 2nd through to Sunday the 5th, 9am-5pm. Please be generous as proceeds will go 100% back to our community.

All Saints Day Masses at St. Kilian Catholic Church in Ardoch will be on Wednesday, November 1st at 5:00pm & at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Flinton at 7:30pm. 

ALL Souls Day Mass at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Flinton will be on Thursday, November 2nd at 4pm. Weather permitting this will be an outdoor mass.

The Denbigh Recreation Committee will be hosting a Halloween Party for Children on Saturday October 28th at the Denbigh Hall from 11am – 1pm.  Light lunch will be served.

The Denbigh Recreation Committee is having a Halloween costume dance with a bar at 8pm at the Denbigh Hall on Saturday October 28th.  The cost is $10 a person and you must be 19 years of age.

The Denbigh Recreation Committee is hosting the Annual Hunters Dinner on Friday November 10th from 5pm-7pm at the Denbigh Hall.  There will be Turkey Dinner with all the trimmings and pie for $15 with Children 12 and under $7.50 and those under 5 free.  Take-out orders are also available.

Happy 25th (again?) birthday to Norm Benn who is a familiar face when heading to our local waste disposal sites!  Hope your Sunday was FAB!

We need your help!!! Tichborne Rink needs repairs and we are setting up 2 work bee days -Sunday, Oct 29th at pam and Sunday, November 19th at 9am -we need to repair and straighten some of the boards to get the rink in usable shape for the season.  If you can help, please bring a cordless screwdriver if you have one or chest waders. Any help is appreciated.

Did you know that the Glendower/Bedford Pickleball courts are now complete?  Drop by to see how great the 4 new courts look, (Westport Road/East of/Buck Bay Rd) and there is a fab tennis court to boot.  The garden has been laid out with a new bench and the play set looks like such fun!  Next Spring we will be able to set up some fun mini-tournaments, drills, skills, and more in our own backyard. 

Getting super excited that a new restaurant will be opening up soon in Harrowsmith at 4937 Hwy 38 ,,, PRIME!  Stay tuned for more details...

We live in an amazing community. Today volunteers gathered to start construction of the roof covering the Sharbot Lake Rink. Each of the 24 beams weighed between 400-500 pounds and was 60 ft long. They were installed by hand and individually nailed and glued. Shout Out to Craig Middleton, Jimmy Mallette, Keith Duggan, Jamie Steele, Mike Thompson, Dan and Whalen Brady, Mike Claro, Doug MacMunn, Joel Gray, and the entire Level It crew.

BC Knitters contributed $125 to the Food Bank in the week ending October 20, 2023.  Thanks to everyone who bought these knitted products and to the local Pharmacies who are selling them.

Wow- thanks everyone for attending, supporting, donating to our Vendor Bash on the weekend, making it a hoot and a holler, a tribute to God, and a shot in the arm for our United Church and Hall in the village.

Arden Legion is hosting a hunting raffle with tickets costing $10 and being available at C4 or the Arden Legion. Deadline to purchase tickets is Sat. Nov. 4. Prizes include: Biggest Deer prize $300; Novice prize 15- under $100.00, Blind draw will be $100.00. The deer will be weighed at C4 in Arden.

This Sat Oct. 28 Harlowe Hall hosts an open mike from 1pm-5pm that costs $2 for musicians for the public. Yummy food can be purchased on site- so come out and rock on in beautiful downtown Harlowe.

Our very own Smitty donated a frig to the Kennebec Sports Centre in Arden that is truly appreciated. Every church I’ve preached at has some Smitty items whom we thank and recognize for super duper generosity and for standing behind his products. We love you to pieces Smitty!!

Gift certificates from Ormsbees, No Frills, Foodland, etc also work.  There is fridge and freezer space for dairy products, meat or frozen items.  Pet food is needed too.

Snow Road Community Centre: The new Board of Directors has accepted the following positions for 2023-24: President- Mike Kennelly; Treasurer- Rick Morey; Secretary- Hanne Quigley; Director- Danielle Turner; Director- Doug Syme. This group will lead the operations at the community centre but welcome input and ideas from members of the community. The ongoing music nights, coffee mornings, social dinners, game nights, book club and genealogy club continue along with exercise and yoga classes. Check the website and facebook pages.

The next Social Dinner on Wednesday, November 8th will have a Black & White theme. Join us for an evening of good food and good company set in a black and white décor. Wear black and white if you wish (tuxedos and fancy dress are not required).

Snow Road Snowmobile Club: Thank you to everyone who took a lovely fall drive to enjoy a great breakfast at the clubhouse. See everyone in two weeks (4 November). Mark your calendar for Saturday, November 11th for a roast beef dinner being served at the clubhouse. Everyone is welcome to come out to the general meeting on Thursday, October 26th. Volunteers are always welcome (and needed) at our trail working days or at the clubhouse activities.

Welcome home to Morgan Wark and Colton who had a “trip of a lifetime” to France, enjoying a fun-filled 2 days at Disneyland Paris then to Bayeux, Normandy and toured WW2 D-day sites – the landing beaches, the war museum and cemetery. They saw a lot of historic sites - the Eiffel Tower, Palace of Versailles, etc. and were lucky to have great weather to see the beautiful scenery and did a lot of walking.

Although the young population is limited in our area, please watch out for all the spooky creatures that may be out and about on Halloween!

The Community Café will be at the Ompah Community Centre this Wednesday, November 1st.  Pam Lemke from the Alzheimer’s Society will talk about “Cognitive Wellness and Safety”, and a representative from Lifeline Medical Alert will also be on hand with information about their Services.  This monthly event is sponsored by Rural Frontenac Community Services and starts at 11:00, followed by snacks and a social time.  All senior community members are welcome.

Great games of Hockey are playing at the Frontenac Arena. New players are showing great improvement already as others not so new to the game continue with their athletic skills and thank you volunteers.

Spooks, Ghosts, Goblins will be out Trick or Treating on Halloween Night so do drive carefully.

Don't forget about District #4 Recreation Committees Halloween Party on Saturday at the CE Building - stop by and have some fun!!!

Also, District #4 Recreation Committee is having a work bee at the Tichborne Rink on Sunday at 9 - bring your cordless drill and your hip waders and help out! We would love to have all the help we can get to get the boards repaired and braced for the upcoming season. Another work day is planned for Nov. 19th at 9 am so hope to see you there!

Bellrock Hall is hosting a Halloween celebration for kids in the Bellrock neighbourhood.  On Tuesday October 31 from 5pm to 7pm. They invite you to come and show off your costume. Treats and activities will be available in the hall. This is a free event.

Style Revival Clothing Center will be open Saturday October 28 from 10am to 1pm. Style Revival provides gently used clothing - free of charge. They are also open every Wednesday from 10 am to 1 pm. Location. Verona Free Methodist Church.

The Verona Lion's Family Pumpkin Carving Day will be held Sunday, October 29 from 12:30pm to 3:30pm. Hot dogs, hamburgers and fries will be served. Kids eat free. Adults by donation. Verona Lions Hall.

The Fall Craft and Bake Sale will be held Saturday, October 28 from 9am to 2pm. This is hosted by the Sydenham Women's Institute and will be held at the Golden Links Hall in Harrowsmith. Vendors, baking, and lunch counter.

The Holiday Craft Sale will be held Saturday, November 4 from 9 am to 2 pm  at Trinity United Church, Verona. Hosted by local crafters. There will be Woodworking, baked goods, unique handmade items, soaps, preserves, and giftware.

Verona Lions Darts runs every Thursday. Sign up at 6:30pm with a 7pm start. Bar plus kitchen is open. Location Verona Lions Club. Verona Sand Road.

The November Women's Luncheon will be held Tuesday, November 7 at MOM's Restaurant at 12:30pm. The women will be asked to share why they are happy to live in Canada. They will also be asked about their preference for a December activity. Those planning on attending are asked to reserve by calling 613 374-2703 by November 5th.
