Arden
by Wanda Harrison

With the Labour Day weekend behind us, it’s now time for us to focus on the beautiful fall colours and the preparations for our winter season. Gardens may still be productive but are gradually winding down. Have you put those precious summer veggies in your freezer and prepared your jams, jellies and salsa? Myself, I’m almost there but still have a few things to do.

The last Sharbot Lake pop-up sale in support of Henderson United Church will take place September 10, 10am to 2pm, at Angela Deline’s place.

The Arden United Church is sponsoring a bus trip to Petroglyphs Provincial Park on September 22. This is a partnership with Napanee United Church. The cost will be $60.00 per person. If you need more information or would like to register for the trip, please contact Rev. Kaitlyn at 613-335-2474 or email her at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. The deadline for this trip is September 8.

Frontenac Harmony Singers, a successor to Arden’s Glee Club, is inviting male and female singers of all ages to join the newly formed choir which meets every Tuesday at 1pm at Kennebec Hall. The group’s first public performance will be in Arden in early November and its eclectic repertoire ranges from rock ‘n’ roll through to opera! For more details, look out for posters around the village or better still, attend as a guest to see what fun you can have! Even bring a musical instrument if you wish. Prior singing experience and ability to read music are NOT required and you don’t have to do an audition!

Look for more details on the September all you can eat breakfast in Sharbot Lake next week.

Watch out for that big yellow bus. Our next generation is aboard!!

The Land O' Lakes Garden Club welcomes you to join them for their meeting on Wednesday, September 13th at 6:45pm at the Barrie Community Hall in Cloyne.  The speaker will be Jennifer Doubt, aka, The Moss Boss.  Jennifer will be talking about moss and other similar plants and will take us on a fascinating journey showing how these often-overlooked plants provide essential food habitat for thousands of animals and plant species.

The Lions want to thank all the vendors and patrons who supported the Farmers Market all summer- see you early June 2024 for our 4th annual season.

The Lions Capital Campaign to raise funds to turn the hall into an emergency shelter is progressing well. The first goal is to outfit the hall with a generator. They appreciate all the support and donations that our community has already given to this necessary project.

Darts starts up again at the Lions Hall on Monday, September 11 at 6pm.

Tomorrow- Fri. Sept. 8, Pine Meadow will feature and team up with the Alzheimer Society for an annual walk event from 10am – 1pm on site. BBQ lunch (by donation) with meat by Milligans is on the menu, plus a bake sale and lots of fun. Info: Pam Lemke 613-827-6700. Also of interest is that Pam will be at our Sat.Oct. 21 Henderson Church/Hall Vendor Bash with the ever-yummy packaged coffee to sell by the package in aid of the Alzheimer movement - can’t wait!!

This Sunday, Sept 10 our own Angie Deline is hosting a charitable vendor sale in aid of Henderson United Church and Hall at 14569 Rd. 38 in Sharbot Lake from 10am – 2pm. This is our last Sharbot Lake sale for the year, and we’re looking forward to visiting with folks at this event that features an amazing prize table and over 20 vendors.

This week we enjoyed our super-duper blue moon which was a great backdrop for the honeymooners, providing a romantic setting.

We are so fortunate to be part of the Neighbours Saving Neighbours (NSN) volunteer responder program for cardiac arrest emergencies featuring over 60 trained volunteers in Frontenac County where we live. So, when a cardiac emergency comes into the Central Ambulance Communications Centre and a trained volunteer lives near by, that person is sent out to begin treatment until paramedics arrive. Seconds count in this effort since the chance of recovery from an out of hospital cardiac arrest diminishes by 10% per minute before treatment with CPR and a defibrillator begins. Rock on, trained volunteers - we love you to pieces!!

Be sure to set aside Sat. September 16 for the 75th school reunion for Sharbot Lake High School from 1 – 5pm at GREC (14432 Rd. 38, Sharbot Lake ). No registration, no fee, just come & enjoy. Same location as High School, just new building. All former staff, students and guests are welcome!
