10th annual Inroads studio tour Labour Day weekend this year marks the very special 10th anniversary of this well-established artists studio tour. In an area bounded by Arden McDonalds Corners, Maberly, and Parham, it is a major event for lovers of art and fine craft. Taking the tour lets you meet and talk with the regions many excellent artists on their own turf, and see them create art or demonstrate fine crafts.

Perhaps the most extensive artists tour in the region, it may also be the prettiest, with studios connected by beautiful back roads that run through scenic forests, meadows and hills. You can start at any point on the tour map, visit as many or as few spots as you like, even stretch it over two or three days.

Among the talented people in the Inroads group are painters, sculptors, potters, woodworkers, jewelers and candle makers. You will find the traditional hand tool woodcarving of award winner Barbara Handley, as well as carving of a very different kind by antler sculptor Gordon Derry. The best of printmaking can be seen at the studio of renowned printmaker Martina Field. Another founding member, Sarah Hale, is recognized for her distinctive batik work. New to the tour this year are the spectacular wooden signs made by Rodger MacMunn of Sharbot Lake. All this plus exquisite rustic furniture, unique metal sculpture, basket weaving, stained glass, wood turning, classic wooden chairs and boats there is something to enthrall everyone on the Inroads 10th Anniversary Tour.

Several of the Inroads studios will be featuring Mystery Guests, who join the tour after the brochure has been printed. Two of these guests are Susan Wulf, a stained glass artist who will show at the Hallys' studio, and Gordon Wright, a landscape artist who will be set up on Sarah Hale's porch in Arden. Look for Susan and Gordon, and for other last minute surprises on the tour.

Completely established and run by the artists themselves, the Inroads Tour is an exciting way for them to welcome you into their world. Brochures are available from any of the artists involved.
