ROMANCE 2000By David Brison

Doris Bertrim, 87, and Arthur Antoine, 84, renewed acquaintances on May 24, 2000, after not being in touch for 61 years, and were married, after a whirlwind romance, on June 15.

Doris, who now wants to be known as Mrs. Arthur Antoine, says, "We couldn't be happier. Arthur and I knew each other when we were younger, and there was something there but we didn't get together then. We both married others but Arthur's wife died several years ago and a friend said that I should give him a call. I call this the "Romance of 2000". He has changed my life completely."

Arthur says, "Our love started when I was 15 and she was 18 but it is like it was left standing still. I just walked away at that time. When we got together again after all those years, it was like it was meant to be."

He is very neat and everything has to be in place - she is more casual in this regard. Arthur is confident that she will change (don't neat people always think that?).

The couple exchanged simple gold wedding bands at their wedding. The wedding was officiated by the Reverend Pat Kelly of Bobs Lake. Doug VanAlistine gave the bride away. Doug Harvey was the best man. Beverly Antoine, who is Arthur's daughter, attended Doris.

As I was leaving, Doris showed me a $25 gift certificate from Grandma's Country Kitchen that she had received as a wedding present. She asked if I had written the review. I said that I had and asked her what she thought of it. Her comment was, "You know, sometimes a little criticism helps business."
