Stupid White Men by Michael Moore (Harper Collins, 2001)a book review by Janis Lantz A book by a stupid white man, for stupid white men, about stupid white men. And, Michael Moore wonders why his book is on the top 10 list but no talkshow in America will interview him. After 9/11 who wants to read about George W's shortcomings - have you ever heard of a guy choking on a pretzel, falling off his couch and knocking himself out, and then bragging about it to the most powerful country in the world? Duck tape the button, Dick, and hide all the sharp objects. George W is more frightening than Osama bin Laden and Saddam Huisan put together. With troops in Afghanistan, W wants to open up a second front in Iraq to reclaim papa's pride. It's hard to find any stupidity there! The biggest problem with Michael Moore's book is that it came out at the wrong time, in the wrong place. Canadian talkshows seem to have no problem about interviewing him. However, the litany of offenses by both political parties in the States gets rather boring after a couple of hundred pages. Moore redeems himself in the end by revealing how he, personally, got George W voted President. Living in New York city has definitely gone to his head. He should move even more northward, and the Canadian government should give him an honourary citizenship and a job at CBC on "This Hour has 22 Minutes." If he cannot recover his humour there, he could always run for the head of the NDP. Good material for the loo library.
