Press Release from OMYA OMYA (Canada) Inc. is a subsidiary of the worldwide organization Pls-Staufer AG whose world headquarters are located in Oftringen, Switzerland. OMYA (Canada) Inc. is the leading manufacturer of Calcium Carbonate products for industrial use in Canada. During the past weeks there has been an ongoing interest and concern regarding the water taking permit applied for by OMYA (Canada) Inc. to the Ministry of the Environment through the EBR process. OMYA would like to state that our operation located in the Township of Bathurst, Burgess, Sherbrooke requires water to maintain their operation. OMYA is doing everything to mitigate any significant impact their water taking would have on the Tay watershed system. OMYA is also committed to recycle as much water as possible from their operation and it is in the process to start a major installation which consists of two 65m (200 feet) diameter round thickeners associated with a press filter. OMYA has the necessary qualified consultants to research the necessary documentation for flow and water levels in order to support their application. All of the supporting documentation is available for viewing and reference from the Ministry of the Environment and copies of the information is also available at the Township Office of Bathurst, Burgess, Sherbrooke. During the ongoing review process by M.O.E.E., OMYA will continue to provide all the required information necessary to support our application in order to continue our operation, which we feel, is a major contributor to the economic impact of Lanark County as well as the Province of Ontario. The public must realize that in order for OMYA to operate, we require water and are not about to jeopardize our Plant by being irresponsible in our taking of water from the Tay River. OMYA worldwide has a strong policy for protection of the environment. Another point OMYA would like to make, is that our application is based on projected production for the next ten years, meaning the water taking will increase gradually over this period if we ever require this amount of water. OMYA will continue to work with M.O.E.E. on this application and will provide a written response to all individuals and groups who have sent a letter of concern or objection to our water taking application. OMYA (Canada) Inc. will await the decision of the Ministry of Environment and after reviewing all the supporting documentation, we feel the right decision will be made to the mutual benefit of all concerned parties.
