Not much action at CF Councilby Jeff GreenThere were no delegations to the February 28 council meeting, and no major items for discussion. The meeting lasted barely a half an hour.

Items that were discussed included a notice from Hydro One concerning the streetlights in Clarendon, which Hydro owns, but wants to sell to Central Frontenac for one dollar, after which time Central Frontenac will have to contract with Hydro to maintain the streetlight. Council voted to accept the offer and sign on to the maintenance agreement.

There was also a letter from the Municipality of Huron East, asking CF Council to endorse their statement of concern on the provinces declaration of road salt as a dangerous substance. The letter will to be forwarded to the province. Councillor Bill Snyder moved the letter be endorsed, saying "I think this is serious." A discussion ensued as to how changes in the use of road salt would affect rural townships with gravel roads to maintain. Marsden Kirk said it is clear "they don't intend to ban the use of road salt. They're looking at better use." Nonetheless the motion to endorse the letter from Huron East was passed.

You wont see a meeting like this again this year, Mayor Bill MacDonald commented as the short meeting wrapped up. He also asked the councillors who had just returned from the annual Rural Ontario Municipal Association (ROMA) and Good Roads Conference in Toronto to be prepared to give reports on the workshops they had attended, at the next meeting of council, which will take place on Monday March 11, at 7 p.m., at the Library Building in Mountain Grove.
