Northbrook Emporium opensby Georgiana WathenOn Saturday, March 1, the Northbrook "Emporium" music store, lapidary shop and mini flea market had its Grand Opening. All day long a steady stream of people dropped in to meet the owners Karl and Margaret Armstrong, and check the new store out. Karl and Margaret formerly ran the Snow Road Caf which was well known for its Thursday night music sessions. Appropriately, their grand opening included an evening jam session with musicians from far and wide. At six o'clock Margaret served a lovely snack of sandwiches, chili con carne, vegetables & dip, and cake & cookies, and the folks got fueled up for the evening.

Northbrook_Emporium_OpensIt was great to see so many out from around the area: Brian and Nancy Durocher from Applehill and Debbie Poirrier from Monkland and Bonnie Garrett from Westport. Jeff and Angie Stoddard and Julie Webber from the Lanark band "Blue Thunder Young Country" entertained us fantastically, as did Big Jim Jones from Parham. Included among the musicians were Mike and Julie Gauvin and Geraldine Hamel, Gordon Wathen, Debbie Trojek from Henderson, Brian Jackson from Kingston, Bruce Lloyd, Ronnie Clark and Charlie Pringle and Laurie Parks from our area. If I missed anyone please forgive me.

It was a really great evening of music, which we all thoroughly enjoyed. Hope we can do it again soon. Our thanks to all the terrific musicians for the grand entertainment and to Karl and Marg for the wonderful party. We are all wishing the Emporium the greatest success.
