Celebrity designer Jason Cass in Flinton

When Wendy Thompson of the Interior Zone does something, she does it in a grand style.

On Saturday April 24, the Flinton Hall was elegantly decorated as the Interior Zone hosted a celebrity luncheon and hands-on workshop. Around 75 people from as far away as Toronto came to glean ideas and advice from designer Jason Cass, host of HGTVs One House, Two Looks, and Kevin Skelly, marketing manager of Para Paints.

Six foot four Cass was the focus of attention as he gave a presentation that was full of interesting facts such as that beige is the favourite colour of Canadians, accounting for 50% of all paint sales and tips about how to make ones home look like a million dollars without having to spend that much. He counselled participants: not to cut corners because it shows; not to waste money decorating over problems, but to fix or remove them; and to take their time to make the right decision. He said that trends pass quickly, and colour should be a personal choice - just look in your closet and youll know your colour. He said that one should buy the best one could afford because the product would last longer. Owners of homes with all-wood interiors, such as log homes, were advised to have bright coloured furniture for contrast.

One particularly memorable quote was: Men are less likely to see the picture; they are best left out of the final decision.

He also related that he was asked to produce One House, Two Looks three times, and learned that you get paid more for saying no twice.

Enthusiastic participants felt that they greatly benefited from the day, and some of the comments were: Inspiring & informative; I have my problem solved; Jason just made it so easy; and, most telling - Now to work on my house.
