Parham-Tichborne

Thank you to everyone that came out to support 30 vendors at the Frontenac Community Arena on Saturday - it was a great day.

Sympathy to the family of the late Mary Howes.  A huge pillar in our small community.  Mary was a member of the Seniors, the Recreation Committee and led the community in their fight against cancer by organizing folks to collect in this area.  Her beautiful flower garden added such beauty.  She will be missed.

Also condolences to JoAnne McCullough on the loss of her father.

Nets are up for the Pickleball courts at the Parham Ball Field.  Have you noticed the new fence up around the play area?  It looks amazing and will keep the kids safe!

The clients at the Seniors Home in Sharbot Lake put together and painted some pretty neat bird houses.  This month they're decorating some flower pots in honour of Mother's Day.

Surprise celebrations for Kendra Lowery, who celebrated her 80th birthday, and Kathy Lowery King, her 70th, were held on Saturday.  Wishing these two ladies many many more.

Hope you are enjoying watching your favourite teams during the play off hockey games!

Folks enjoyed music by Stephen Goodberry and Debra Currier and the White Family Band last Sunday at the Clar-Mill Hall in Plevna.

Food Bank got an extra boost to their inventory as the United Church collected on last 2 Sundays and with the Touch the Truck at the Fair Grounds in Parham.  It will be greatly appreciated.  Thank you to all who gave non perishable items or monetary donations.

Daffodils are out and the Forsythia plants are making their finest display of yellow vibrant colours!

Lots of great events happening in our area in the next few months including: Friday Night Bingo at the OSO Hall in Sharbot Lake starting at 6:45pm; Lions Club All You Can Eat Breakfast is on May 3rd from 8 to 1030 am at the Sharbot Lake OSO Hall - be sure to bring your own utensils!; May 3rd there is a 3 pitch tournament in Parham - please contact Riley Teal at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to enter in a team.  This is to support the grade 7 and 8's at Ernestown Intermediate Secondary School.  There will be a bake sale and raffle table as well!

The big news this week in Sharbot Lake is the North Frontenac Little Theatre Group’s production "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat."  Performances are at Soldiers Memorial Hall (OSO), Wednesday to Saturday evenings at 7pm, as well as a Saturday afternoon Matinee performance at 2pm.  Tickets are $20 and available at Treasure Trunk, The Cardinal Café, Sharbot Lake Pharmacy and C-4 in Arden.

“Let’s Get Blooming” -  The “Villages Beautiful” Committee of Central Frontenac is calling upon residents to paint the township in red and white this summer.  Whether it is your front porch, flower boxes, or garden, show your national pride, with vibrant red and white, and celebrate Canada Day all summer long.

A series of Vendor Fairs have been scheduled for the Sharbot Lake Ice Rink, on the first Sunday of each month from 10-2pm.  The first of these was held this past Sunday (May 4th).  Upcoming fairs will be held June 1st, July 6th, Aug 3rd, and Sept 7th.

There will be a Celebration of Life for Janet Greenley at the Community Centre on Sunday, May 18th at 1pm.

It was a wonderful weekend of live music in the area; starting with “The Goodnight Irenes“ at the Community Centre on Saturday night. As promised, it was a great evening and the three performers – two guitars (one left-hand and one right-hand) combined with a great fiddle, did a fantastic job entertaining the group. On Sunday afternoon the music continued at the Clar-Mill Hall in Plevna. Ron Lemke opened the event with his personal song about a “little piece of Heaven north of Highway 7” and then Stephen Goodberry and Debra Currier entertained for 2 hours, winding up their set with a rendition of “How Great Thou Art” in tribute to Pearl Killingbeck. Admittedly, there were some tears running down a few cheeks in the audience. However, “The White Family Band” soon had the crowd tapping toes and clapping hands and even some dancing on the sidelines. Thank you to the North Frontenac Historical Society and Archives for arranging a great afternoon.

Special thanks to Kevin at North of 7 Restaurant for extending his hours to accommodate many of the entertainers and attendees who enjoyed a meal following the entertainment.

Good news for the community members who like to have someone else to do the cooking. The Creek Grill at Paul’s Creek Camping on the McDonald’s Corners Road is opening on Thursday, May 1st for the season and kicking off with their Wing Nite. Their patio will be open. Check out their Facebook page for information about a Mother’s Day Brunch. Also the Dalhousie Lake/Sylvania Lodge restaurant is opening for the season on Friday, May 2nd. Hours are Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 8pm, with their Chinese buffet starting at 5pm.

Sydenham
by Karen Brawley

Spring was just around the corner... might have been a larger corner than some like. But it's here now. All the Spring wildlife is waking up from winter nap.

A few awesome draws are happening this Canada day. The Bob Richardson branch 496 Legion has their annual ATV draw. Only 200 tickets to be sold. The lucky winner gets to roll away on a 2024 Suzuki 400 ATV. Tickets can be purchased during the hours of 2-6 Tuesday to Saturday at the branch for $100 each.

The local Lions kicked off their annual Spring Raffle at Sydenham Foodland last weekend. The Annual Lions Canada Day Lottery ~aka ~ Spring Raffle is back. Watch for the Sydenham & District Lions Club to be out and about! PRIZES are: 1st $1500.00 / 2nd $500.00/ & 3rd $500.00. $10.00 per ticket.

Tickets may also be purchased through a Lions Member you know as well. Draw to be done on Canada Day at the Point! Both excellent ways to support not just Canadian but local as well.

Our Canada Day parade in Sydenham is back. Mark Segsworth has taken it on to organize this year. It seems early to think of July 1st but let's shine bright and patriotic this year Sydenham. Any questions, just reach out.

Happy May, everyone.
