On Thursday May 1, the team at New Leaf Link gathered to celebrate achievements made possible thanks to a $38,800 Seed grant from the provincial government’s Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF).
The grant has allowed New Leaf Link to launch new services to make their programming for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) more accessible and to better service the needs of the community.
“Communities are defined by their capacity to grow together in the spirit of inclusiveness,” said John Jordan, MPP for Lanark— Frontenac—Kingston.
“Acknowledging the vital services offered by this dedicated and talented staff, our government’s investment will address the need for flexible hours and accessible transportation.
There are many who benefit from the learning and friendship found at the New Leaf Link program and I thank the members of the Harrowsmith community for championing the importance of an extended Before and After Program.”
The OTF grant has made it possible for New Leaf Link to launch two new services.
The first is a Before and After Program allowing participants to enjoy morning and/or afternoon programs supporting social interaction, hobbies, exercise and healthy snacks.
The new hours are perfect for busy families or for high school students 18 years and older. The second new service is Transportation Support for participants to travel to and from New Leaf Link programs.
"With this OTF grant, New Leaf Link is able to take a big step in providing more substantial services to our community and welcoming more participants. Our programming allows adults with IDDs to build life skills, enjoy friendships, and be an active member of their community.
We're very happy to share these gifts with more participants and their families,” said Julia Atherley, Director for New Leaf Link and participant parent.
The Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) is an agency of the Ontario government with a mission to build healthy and vibrant communities across the province. Last year, OTF invested nearly $105M into 732 community projects and multi-sector partnerships.
Projects aim to enhance economic well-being, foster more active lifestyles, support child and youth development, provide spaces for people to come together and connect, and create a more sustainable environment.
