Passed away quietly in her 90th year with her husband Claude by her side, after a shorty stay at The John M. Parrott Centre in Napanee.
Born at KGH, her early years were spent in Florida, Ontario, until her family, Guy Redden and Laura (nee Crober) moved to Sydenham.
After graduating from Sydenham High School and Teachers College in Ottawa, she taught full-time from Tyendinaga to Perth Road to Inverary until her 2 sons, David and Darryl were born and continued substitute teaching as she raised them.
She and husband Claude started growing a produce operation over 50 years ago, which included green house plants and produce that she worked at until the last few years, finally retiring at the age of 88. Their farm was very successful because of their passion, determination and help from their children and grandchildren.
Shirley was active in the community. She was a member of the Local Women’s Institute and Sydenham Lions Club.
She is survived by her husband Claude, son David, grandkids James, Hannah, Kyle and great-grandson Rhys. Shirley was predeceased by her son Darryl in 2024.
Cremation has already taken place at James Reid Funeral Home and a celebration of life will be held in the near future. Memorial donations are welcomed by the family to South Frontenac Community Services (Grace Centre), Sydenham Lions Club, the Sydenham Legion Branch 496 or the Kingston Humane Society in Shirley’s honour.
