South Frontenac Township’s big addition/renovation of the Township Hall offices is nearing completion; as you read this, the patch of George Street providing access to the local water main is now neatly paved over, and the closure of this busy street was brief. Township staff will be coming home to their new offices very soon, and a preview tour shows an impressive use of a small amount of property. Architectural firm is Colborne and Kembel, Kingston.

When the need for increased office space was first brought forward, five possible scenarios were proposed. Three of them involved some form of library relocation, but the vociferous response from library users resulted in them being withdrawn almost immediately. Upgrading the current space was chosen over the alternative of permanently locating part of the staff somewhere else in the area. It has seemed like a long haul, but the end’s in sight: staff will be using the last part of September to return home and get settled in.

An early sneak peek tour has hinted at excellent use of as much natural light as possible, some lovely exposure of the stone wall of the original 1874 hall, and a plethora of offices. We look forward to the official grand opening. Next Council meeting will be October 7. Welcome home!
