Fuelled by a passion for the outdoors and a desire to know where their food was coming from in 2018 Sarah and Rob Winney quit their jobs, sold their house in Toronto and moved to Frontenac County the start The Rise Farm. Located in Godfrey, they use sustainable farming practices on their ultra small-scale, diversified livestock farm, selling direct to customer meat and farm products.
As new farmers they approached farming with a focus on how they could live with less and make use of more while becoming increasingly interested in their impact on the planet and the ethical practices behind raising animals for meat. Their emphasis on the welfare of their animals ensures the highest quality products and they don’t take the responsibility of feeding their customers lightly. Utilizing the diverse landscape of their 22-acre property they graze sheep and goats on the land while also raising ducks, rabbits, geese, turkeys and chickens.
Rob and Sarah pride themselves on being local food producers and supporting the local food scene in Frontenac County. They document their daily life on social media, sharing everything from daily chores and gardening to what they are making for dinner. Every Sunday you can find them cooking a meal made with local ingredients for #therisefarmchallenge encouraging people to connect with their local farmers and embrace the idea of eating different. Fostering a connection to where our food comes from is essential for the future and at The Rise Farm they are committed to helping that happen.
