Ms. Schall’s grade 7/8 class at Hinchinbrooke receive gym equipment donated by Sandi Blair and Ron Zuther
Sandi Blair, who just moved to the community last year, listened to comments by her son Mikey, a grade 7 student at Hinchinbrooke Public School, that the kids would benefit by having some more gym equipment to play with in the school yard.
Aware of tight school budgets, Sandi decided to approach Jeff Johnson, a staff member at the Canadian Tire on Gardiners Road in Kingston, and asked if he could get them a deal on some gym equipment at cost.
Sandi’s efforts were not in vain and she and her caregiver Ron Zuther purchased numerous footballs, soccer balls, Frisbees, a basketball hoop, and hockey sticks for the students at Hinchinbrooke Public School.
Canadian Tire donated the basketballs and tennis balls.
On September 22 in the gym of the school, Sandi and Ron presented the equipment to Ms. Schall’s grade 7/8 class to much applause and fanfare.
Sandi explained afterwards, “It’s a small school without a big budget so this will help give the kids an opportunity to play and exercise. Every little bit helps.”
Joan Dufresne, principal at HPS, was thrilled with the donation and commented, “It’s really nice to have a parent who is willing to take the time to advocate for the school and make it a better place for kids to play.”
The equipment will be enjoyed by all of the students at the school.
