Back to HomeFeature Article - July 16, 2009 Remington to try again for Liberals

David Remington has been nominated as the Liberal candidate for Lanark-Frontenac-Lennox & Addington. The nomination meeting was held on July 7th at Piccadilly Hall in Godfrey. Larry McCormick, Remington’s campaign chair, nominated Remington at the meeting.

Remington stated, “I am pleased to once again carry the Liberal banner as the candidate for election to Federal Parliament because I want to make a positive difference in the lives of the residents of Lanark- Frontenac- Lennox & Addington.” He described the Liberal Party as “the party of the Charter of Rights and Freedom, the party of healthcare, the party of peacekeeping and the party of fiscal responsibility.”

Remington was the Liberal candidate in the same riding during the most recent Federal Election, which took place less than a year ago. He finished a distant second to incumbent Conservative MP and Deputy House Leader Scott Reid.

Remington is a former Mayor of Napanee and served as a legislative assistant to former MP Larry McKormick. He is currently a Program Supervisor with the Ministry of Children and Youth Services.

While a Federal election is not scheduled until the Fall of 2012, the volatility of the current minority parliament has led parties’ to get candidates in place should the government fall.

Remington said he believes that by working together with the residents of LFL&A we can create healthy communities and equal opportunities for everyone. He stated “As your MP, I will be your voice for fairness, equality, and justice - speaking out on behalf of our communities and those who need our help the most.”

Remington served as Mayor of the Town of Greater Napanee, and as Councillor and Deputy Mayor of Napanee Town Council. He later worked on Parliament Hill as a Legislative Assistant to former MP Larry McCormick. He has been in the business community for over 20 years serving on numerous boards, committees and agencies during that time.  Remington attended Queen’s University and received a diploma in Restorative Justice from Queen’s Theological College. Dave invites residents to visit his web site at www.DaveLFLA.ca. Remington attended the Art of Being Green Festival in Middleville in Lanark Highlands this past weekend. He said “As Mayor I had the opportunity to meet people one on one and in larger group meetings and events to better understand their issues and concerns. This is the same approach I will take as the Member of Parliament; it’s important to be in the riding on a regular basis.”
