Fire on island, Larry & Mary Chiarot
Fire on IslandFriday afternoon past brought some severe summer thunderstorms to the Sharbot Lake region. Our local fire department was called upon to put out a fire inside a tree on an island in the upper lake, which had been struck by lightning during the storm.
By the time the firemen arrived on the scene, the occupants - in their wise reaction to a serious situation - had already managed, using a dull chain saw, to drop the tree into the lake, preventing the fire from spreading any further on the island.
We would like to thank the firemen for their promptness, courtesy and professionalism. Fire Chief Bill Young commended the occupants of the island for acting in a calm and safe manner throughout their ordeal.
