On behalf of the Alzheimer Society, Sharbot Lake office, I am pleased to say that I have been extremely busy since our opening in April 2009. I am grateful for the opportunity to serve the North and Central Frontenac communities as the Public Education Coordinator for the Alzheimer Society.
The Alzheimer Society offers:
Support and counselling to families/caregivers and those living with Alzheimer Disease or a related dementia (this can be done at the office or during an in-home visit);
We provide educational courses and workshops to all Partners in Care (inclusive to volunteers, caregivers, friends and health care professionals);
A Children's Awareness Program, raising funds for research and the Safely Home Program for people who may be at risk for wandering;
We hold a monthly caregiver support group that meets the first Wednesday of the month at the Seniors Centre, 1- 3PM.
Office hours are Wednesdays and Thursdays, 9AM – 4PM at the Seniors Centre, 1042 Elizabeth Street, Sharbot Lake. 613-279-WELL (9355).
June is Alzheimer Awareness Month. Please look for a local donation drop-off in your area during the month of June or drop in to the office anytime. Donations can also be mailed directly to the Alzheimer Society of Kingston for a taxable receipt.
I look forward to working with all clients, families and caregivers of those living with Alzheimer's and a Related Dementia. Understanding the behaviours can help with the challenges we face along the journey.
There is help for today and hope for tomorrow.
