Written By: Shanda Vincent, Sarah McCullough, Jessica Nedow and Chelsea Putman
Hinchinbrooke Public School is holding a fundraising rock concert.
This year Hinchinbrooke Public School has two rock bands: “Garbage
Can,” for the boys and “Whatever Girlband,” for the girls. This is a
continuation of last year’s music program at Hinchinbrooke. Last year
we had one band which was a mix of genders called “Child’s Play.” This
music program is a chance for the kids in the grade 7/8 class to learn
how to play music and write music. We
started out with many participants but numbers went down, giving us the
perfect amount for each band. In the girls’ band this year we have
Jessica Nedow on the drums, Shanda Vincent on the bass, Chelsea Putman
on guitar and Sarah McCullough as lead vocal in both bands. For the
boys’ band there are David Ostrom and Jordan Welch on the drums, Collin
Green, Zack Clow and Dylan Stanzel on the guitar, as well Jed Hickey on
the bass. Both bands have been practicing very
hard since January. So far the girls’ band has a set list of six songs,
including three originals and the boys have learned five songs.
For some of us this is all new. There were only a few of us who knew
how to play our instruments, but now we can play blind folded. We all
have achieved so much.
Our
concert will be held at the Oddfellows’ Hall in Parham on Saturday,
June 9th, from 7p.m. to 10 p.m. We will also be joined by
Hinchinbrooke’s guitar club. The admission fee is $5. Proceeds will be
going towards the grade 8 grad trip in June. We hope you can come and
rock on with us.
