Feature Article - August 17, 2006A glimpse into the past
This year’s 115th Parham Fair, slated for August 25-27, will include the dedication of a mural celebrating the 59th edition of the Fair in 1950. All of the portraits included in the mural, (pictured above in its almost completed form) are of people who lived in the region back in 1950. Many of them were certainly at the fair that year, and all of them could have been there. The mural will be unveiled on Friday, August 25th, at 6:45 pm, during this year’s opening ceremonies. Mary Cronk and her children Karin and Lyn will do the honours, in honour of Mary’s late husband Norman, who died last month. Norman is a focal point in the mural, picured with his hands on two horses. He was President of the Fair Board in 1957-58, one of four members of the Cronk family to fill that role. The mural was designed by Donna Laroque and Rodger MacMunn and was painted by Donna Laroque (with the assistance of Erin Godfrey). There will be 77 portaits in the mural once it is completed.
