BookLaunch:TheSalmonRiver Watershed

Join us on World Rivers Day 2006

Sunday, September 24, at Beaver Lake Park

(Highway #41 and Beaver Lake ) 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. To celebrate the publishing of “The Salmon River Watershed: Jewel of Eastern Ontario ”

This beautifully produced book offers a map, colour photographs, graphs, and text related to the watershed’s geographic structure, bedrock geology, physiography, ecology, current habitation, history, watershed quality, and whitewater paddling.One evocative chapter hasselections of prose, poetry and visual art that celebrate the connections between rivers and land.

Amalgamation

All text, editing and most images were contributed by members of The Friends of the Salmon River . We are very grateful to the Lennox & Addington, Frontenac and Hastings Stewardship Councils and the Napanee & District Community Foundation for financial assistance for the book’s production.

The event, which coincides with World Rivers Day, will include local live music and a variety of conservation-oriented displays.

A highlight at 2:00 will be the arrival ofa fleet of canoeists and kayakers who have enjoyed a Paddle to the Book Launch sponsored bythe Cataraqui Canoe Club.

Special guest will be the Honourable Peter Milliken, MP for Kingston and the Islands and Speaker of the House. Peter got his first taste of whitewater on the Salmonin the early 1970s andstillenjoys paddlingwilderness rivers.At 2:30he will sharesome of hisexperiences with us.A few selected readings from the book will follow.

Refreshments will be provided and the books will be available for $15 each.
