Canada Day planning proceeds apace

With Canada Day fast approaching, volunteers in many communities are working hard to finalise schedules for the day.

In Harrowsmith, a parade at 10 AM will kick off the festivities. At 11:30 am the games will begin, including: baseball, running races, mini-putt, dogless sled races, face painting, bingo, and the ever popular little Miss and Miser Canada Day contest. Musical entertainment will also commence at 11:30 am and continue until 9:00 pm. Tickets will be on sale all day, (until they are sold out) for a chicken Bbq. A fireworks display will end the day at 9:30 pm. People are welcome to join the parade, and volunteers are needed for a variery of tasks. For information, call Marilyn at 372-0917.

In Sharbot Lake, plan to get an early start at the annual pancake breakfast at the Firehall from 7-10 am. The parade commences at 11:00, with participants asked to gather across from the township office at 10:30. Memebrs of the Central Frontenac Recreation Committee are encouraging everyone who is able to walk, ride a bike, or drive a car, to join the parade. for information about the parade, call Al Mathews at 375-6499. From 12-4 at the beach there will be crafts displays and kids games, the Masons Bbq runs from 12-8, and the Strawberry Social, sponsored by the Sharbot Lake 39ers, runs from 12-4. from 1:00 until dusk, a full lineup of musical entertainers are slated to perform. Confirmed performers include: Heaven Bound, Cal Mullin, Synapse, The Mudlarks, Drumset City, and Crossroads. Fireworks at dusk.

In Plevna, bring your family and friends at dusk to enjoy fireworks and refreshments at the Clarendon-Miller Hall location in Plevna. Donations gratefully received by the fire fighters. Sponsored by Volunteer Ladies Auxiliary, Clarendon-Miller Fire Station.

In Sydenham, a large fireworks display will take place at The Point Park at dusk. Organizers had been planning other events throughout the day, but were dissuaded by the expectation of road construction for the water project. The boat ramp at the Point will be closed from 12 oclock noon onwards, in order for the fireworks to be set up.
