Kyle Gordon is pretty well known in the Battersea area, since he has been the Kyle behind the Creekside Bar and Grill for 20 years.
Like all businesses, especially restaurants, there have been ups and downs, a COVID pivots were required, but Creekside has been able to maintain its role as a place to get eat and drink, and see live music, throughout that time.
Kyle has been a hands-on owner throughout, supported by his staff, but since late in 2022, he has been dealing with some health issues, which have led him to be less active in his business, community and family life.
He received COVID vaccines, including Astrazenica, and also contracted COVID in December of 2022.
“COVID hit me very hard. I was in bed, almost 24 hours a day, for 11 days,” he recalls. In the months that followed, he did not get all of his energy back, and later in October of 2023, he noticed that he was not well.
He developed canker sores, lost over 25 pounds, and developed random swelling that lasted for several days.
“One day, I woke up to find my eye was folded over,” he recalls.
In late 2024, he developed lock jaw after having a root canal done, and the condition lasted for several months, and in April he developed partial paralysis on his left side. When he started having chest pains, he went to the hospital. He has been taking aspirin and has nitroglycerin for heart issues, but all of the tests he has done seeking out the root cause of his many symptoms have been inconclusive.
In April a guest at the Pub said he should consult a Naturopath, since he was not getting anywhere with his range of symptoms.
“She said I should see a Naturopath and told me there was one in Sydenham.”
It turned out that Sandra O’Grady, from “Gentle Wellness Homeopathy” lives in Sydenham and runs a clinic in Kingston.
“She is not taking new patients, but when she heard my story, she took me on as a patient, which I am grateful for,” said Gordon.
Also, one day at his son’s baseball game, another parent sought him out.
“She asked me if everything was ok with me. I told her no, I was struggling with health issues and had not energy.”
It turned out that women was Laura Ireland, who operates as “Expressions of the Soul” and has since been doing Reiki and Sound Therapy treatments on Kyle.
While he continues to be treated for his heart condition through the Ontario healthcare system, Kyle has been pursuing the alternate healthcare path as well, and has seen his symptoms recede and his energy levels pick up.
“I’m very thankful, and amazed, that these services are available here in South Frontenac,” he said. “I have been really lucky that I run my own business, and my staff has really stepped over the last two years to take on more responsibility, but I feel now that I have a path forward. My staff still know that after 7, I’m finished, but it is better.”
He still does not have a definitive diagnosis, but said that it appears his issues could stem from the Astrazenica shot he took, and/or undiagnosed Lyme disease
When contacted Sandra O’Grady said she cannot discuss her patient’s conditions, but that in general terms, her focus is on treatment, not diagnosis.
“As a registered homeopath, I do not diagnose illnesses or diseases. We look at symptoms and see where the dis-ease is in the body. Through observing symptoms and working with health history we can see how the body is trying to heal whatever is causing it stress or discomfort. I use homeopathic medicine, nutrition, and lifestyle choices to support the immune system and move towards healing.”
For Kyle, what is most important is that he feels better on a day today basis and new symptoms are not popping up.
“I know I will be dealing this for life,” he said, “but with better nutrition, cutting out alcohol, taking simple remedies and treatments that are not based on drug therapies, I am feeling healthier”
Laura Ireland is participating in Healthy Country Living: Frontenac Holistic Health Fair from 10am to 3pm at the Storrington Centre.
