Ellie Steele of Evolution Wellness, is a nutritionist and practitioner of Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT). She came up with the idea of organising the first Frontenac Holistic Health Fair two years ago, at Centennial Park in Harrowsmith, for two main reasons.
One was to bring exposure to services and increase awareness of holistic, alternative and natural health care options that are available in Frontenac County.
The other was to develop and deepen her contacts with other practitioners in the extended Frontenac Community.
“Forming a collective of people who are interested in finding ways to help people live healthier lives, who can refer people to each other, who have similar interests in living in a rural area, was the idea all along,” she said, in a Zoom interview earlier this month, along with Brooke Alexander, an occupational therapist who also pursues Integrated Energy Therapy and Soul Astrology, and Claire Beach of the Wild Edge.
In the winter of 2024 Ellie Steele organised a series of workshops, and that was the beginning of the collective. In the winter of this year, Frontenac Healthcare Collective began holding formal meetings to establish a working group. Putting on the third edition of the Holistic Health Fair this year, with the entire collective taking responsibility for organisation and promotion of the fair, is the result.
This year the fair is taking place at the Storrington Centre in Battersea, just like last year. The fair includes a curated group of vendor booths, and a series of workshops throughout the day. Having access to the grounds at the Storrington Centre, as well as the indoor space, allows for outdoor workshops when the September weather is as good as it can be, and indoor ones, when it is as bad as it can be.
The workshop program starts this year with an introduction and meditation by Ellie Steele. Other workshops include a workshop by Cheryl Surtliffe of Wellness 360 Hypnotherapy and Coaching who will present a workshop “for women who carry it all – and deserve to let go”.
Marilyn Picard will present a Qigong session, and Allie Montgomery of Back to Health in Inverary will present Massage Therapy FAQ- and will answer any and all questions about massage therapy, based on her 24 years of practice. There are also workshops on Pilates, Grief rituals, and more.
The workshops run all afternoon, along with a wide variety of vendor booths, the Paper Plate Food Truck which prepares local food with a Portuguese influence. There will also be a series of draws, and multiple opportunities to think about health and wellbeing in different ways, to move, and to enjoy the company of friends and neighbours.
“We are a group of different practitioners who are interested in building out our practices in the community where we live,” said Claire Beach, “and to build community as well.”
The Frontenac Holistic Health Fair runs from 10am -3pm at the Storrington Centre, 3910 Battersea Road. Admission is free, but there is an opportunity to pre-register at https://www.tickettailor.com/events/frontenacholistichealthcollective/ Those who pre-register will be eligible for special draws. The Health Fair page on Tickettailor also includes information about the workshop schedule.
