The 193rd edition of the Kingston Fall is happening September 11-14 this year, and it’s a big attraction for  rural and urban residents alike. Presented by the Kingston & District Agricultural Society, the fall fair has been a tradition in Kingston since 1830, a unique combination of agricultural showcase and family entertainment.

The fair is hosted annually by the Kingston & District Agricultural Society, a team of volunteers well-versed in coordinating this major event that draws over 25,000 people over the four days at the Kingston Memorial Centre. This year, the Society had to once again defend itself and the fairgrounds against another development proposal for the Memorial Centre grounds, but community support was strong, and the fair is back, better than ever!

The Society is celebrating its 200th anniversary this year with some new features at the event: the return of the Fall Fair Ambassador competition that will select a youth aged 17-24 to represent the fair throughout the next year. They’ve also added a Strong Man/Woman competition, a Square Dance demonstration by the Limestone Dancers, a Super Hero tent full of activities for the littlest fairgoers, and the 4H competitions will be including a sheep club.

This year’s line-up also includes all the favourites from last year: the World’s Finest Shows midway with one of the largest selections of rides in Eastern Ontario, Monster Truck Madness, the FMX Motorcycle Thrill Show and demolition derbies are also on the schedule, in addition to daily horse shows, 4-H competitions, beef and dairy shows and the annual auction of steers, barrows and market lambs. Competitions in Homecrafts, Culinary Arts, Photography, and Flowers, Fruits and Vegetables will be on display. Artisan’s Alley is a showcase of local crafters, and a host of other vendors and food booths will be featured throughout the grounds.

Another traditional competition that’s returning this year is the Country Singing Showdown. Auditions were hosted earlier this summer at The Buckle to select 20 finalists who will compete for cash prizes. Adult finals are held at 7 pm Friday night, and the Youth and Junior winners will be selected Saturday at 2 pm. The finals are always a great show, with each competitor singing two songs to help the judges make their decision.

Advance ticket sales are available now through the website, at $10 for adults and $5 for ages 6 – 17, and can also be purchased at the gate with debit, credit or cash. Children 5 and under are admitted free. There is limited parking at the Memorial Centre, and a $5 fee per vehicle.
