Kim Phuc Phan Ti will always be known as “The Napalm Girl” ever since, moments after, at the age of 9, all of her clothes were burned off and her body burned by napalm, which came from four bombs that landed in the street where she lived.
A photo, one of the most famous war photos ever taken, of her running in the street naked, screaming in pain, is what made her “The Napalm Girl”.
That was 52 years ago, in 1973. Soon after the picture was taken, she we bought to burn clinics, underwent 17 operations, plastic surgery. She has suffered pain for many years, to this day, but survived, and over they years she has become a symbol of peace through her humanitarian work and the inspirational message she delivers around the world.
She was named a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for Peace in 1997, and lives in Toronto with her husband and two sons.
That same year, she also the Kim Foundation International, whose goal is to help heal the wounds suffered by innocent children and to restore hope and happiness to their lives. Theyaccomplish this by funding international projects that benefit communities of children.
Kim Phuc travels widely, bringing a message of peace, hope and forgiveness.
She will bring that message to a Ladies Tea at Through The Roof Ministry (3662 Flinton Road) on November 1, from 1pm - 4pm.
