An individual placed a 9-1-1 call after falling through the ice on Eagle Lake and was rescued by officers that were searching the area of the call.

A resident in the area of Eagle Lake in Godfrey was out walking 3 dogs across the lake on Wednesday January 29, 2025 around 2:30 pm when the ice broke away, causing the individual to be submerged in the water. A 9-1-1 call was placed to emergency services as the caller was clinging to a dock, in the frigid water, and not able to get out.

Heavy winter clothing was making it difficult to exit the water. The only location provided to officers was the 9-1-1 call drop area.

Frontenac OPP members responded and tracked footprints across the lake, while encountering spots of open water, searching for the caller. A location on the opposite side of the lake showed that the caller had crawled out of the water and entered a small building nearby for shelter.

Officers determined that medical attention was required due to the extremely cold temperatures. No access road was available at the location, for emergency services. The individual was loaded into a kayak, wrapped in the officers coats, and dragged back across the lake to an Ambulance waiting to assist the individual. A 59-year-old female was checked out by paramedics and expected to recover.
