200 years ago Samuel Manson Benson (Deputy - Provincial Land Survey) commenced the first survey of Bedford Township, this survey was to mark out the Concessions and Lots to provide for the looming Bedford Township settlement.
The Bedford Historical Society, located at the Glendower Hall, is re-commencing its’ annual Open House event on Sunday, February 18th, 2024 from 11 A.M. to 3 P.M. with a focus on celebrating this bicentennial survey and subsequent events (and there’s quite the story here) and also providing displays of the “Maps of Bedford Township”.
A sequence of 20 minute presentations expanding on the surveying and mapping of Bedford Township will take place at 11:30, 1:00 and 2:30 on the 18th., when as mentioned, Benson and his survey crew were “in the field conducting their survey”.

The support of South Frontenac Township to provide an archives home for the Bedford Historical Society at the Glendower Hall is very much appreciated.
