There was more good news than bad news at the Bubba Bowl last Friday
The first bit of good news is that the Bubba Bowl happened and the weather was ideal. The annual game is a tribute to Alex (Bubba) Turcotte, a Golden Eagle who died in 2001 of a cardiac defect, and it draws a crowd of SHS alumni every year.
The other good news is that the Junior Golden Eagles won their game against Lasalle easily, 35-7, running the record up to 2 wins against 1 loss for the season, good enough for solo third in the Kingston and Area Secondary School Athletics Association (KASSAA) standings for the season. Holy Cross (3-0) and Frontenac SS (2-0) are ahead of the SHS Golden Eagles thus far. The Golden Eagles’ one loss was a home loss to Frontenac SS in September, also by a score of 35-7.
The not so good news is that the Senior Golden Eagles lost to Lasalle in the second Bubba Bowl Game, also by a lopsided score, 44-12. This was the Golden Eagles’ second home loss in a row, after losing on September 28 to Frontenac SS 36-17, running their early season record to 2-2, 5th in the KASSAA standings. The Senior team easily won their first two games this year, both shutout wins on the road, 42-0 over Ernestown on September 14, and 38-0 over Bayridge on September 21.
Both Sydenham teams are at home today (October 12) to Regiopolis.
