Sudbury is known for its rugged beauty, rich mining history, and over 330 shimmering lakes. Last week, Sudbury played host to a spectacular celebration of athleticism, community, and joy as more than 1,200 spirited seniors descended upon the city for the Ontario Senior Games Association (OSGA) 55+ Provincial Summer Games.
Our proud group of 25+ competitors from District 10 made the journey - some travelling over six hour - to represent their sport and community with pride. From the moment we arrived, Sudbury welcomed us with open arms and a vibrant energy that set the tone for an unforgettable three-day adventure.
After a quick check-in and a refreshing shower, our team explored local shops and restaurants before heading to the Grace Hartman Amphitheatre, nestled beside the serene Ramsey Lake. As the sun dipped behind sailboats and kayaks gliding across the water, the amphitheater came alive.
The MC welcomed dignitaries, and as “O Canada” rang out, players stood tall—strong and proud—many with tears in their eyes. The District Flag March followed, with chosen athletes proudly waving their flags around the venue to roaring cheers. he next morning, athletes rose early, and multiple shuttles zipped between venues with precision, ensuring no player was left behind.
There were 17 events included in the games, including my event, Pickleball
Over 200 volunteers kept everything running smoothly, from feeding athletes to guiding them to their events. The camaraderie was palpable—new friendships formed over shared victories and mutual respect.
After day one’s competitions, athletes gathered at Science North, where curiosity met celebration. Adults became kids again, exploring interactive exhibits, winning prizes at the info fair, and enjoying a segmented buffet that kept lines short and spirits high. The porcupine mascot returned for photos and more dancing, adding to the evening’s magic.
Day two did not disappoint. As the nail-biting finals ended, top-notch athletes gave it their all to claim the coveted bronze, silver, or gold. Medal presentations were capped off with proud photo ops.
District 10 (Frontenac, Lennox/Addington/Kingston/PEC) brought home a treasure trove of medals from Pickleball and Darts, and we couldn’t be prouder of our champions:
Pickleball Medalists – District 10: Dennis Bally (Sydenham) & Ron Cairns (Kingston) – Gold, 3.5 Doubles; Kelli McRobert (Godfrey) & Hong Liu (Kingston) – Gold, 4.0 Doubles; Barry Campbell & Deb Campbell (Verona) – Silver, 3.5 Mixed; Lorie Cooper (Harrowsmith) & Don Koval (Prince Edward County) – Silver, 4.0 Mixed; Tim Alton (Sydenham) & Sherry Gowdy (Kingston) – Bronze, 3.5 Mixed

The OSGA 55+ Games is about more than sport—it’s a movement. It’s about staying active, making friends, and proving that age is just a number. Whether you're a seasoned athlete or trying something new, the OSGA Games offer a chance to shine, laugh, and live fully.
So, to all seniors out there: join us. Be part of the excitement. Represent your district. Discover new passions. And maybe—maybe—find yourself singing “O Canada” with tears of pride in your eyes. Well done, everyone! See you at Nationals!
