After breezing after posting a 10-0 KASSA regular season, breezing through the KASSA playoffs and coming home with an EOSSAA title, the Sydenham High School senior girls volleyball Golden Eagles finally met their match at the OFSAA playoffs last week in Streetsville.
The Sydenham side started pool play with a straight-sets loss to NOSSA champions Lockerby Composite School and things didn’t get much better from then on as they fell 2-0 to GHAC champs Nelson High School.
On Day 2, Sydenham got back on track with a straight-sets win over Westgate C &VI, the NWOSSAA winners. But the victory run was short lived as they then fell to the host Streetsville Secondary School side, the ROPSSAA winners in straight sets.
Their one win in pool play earned them a berth in the Consolation playoffs and after losing the opening set 25-20 to the LOSSA champion McLaughlin C & VI, Sydenham came back to win the next three 25-21, 25-21 and 25-9.
But that was as far as they would go as they fell three-straight to CWOSSA champs St. David Catholic Secondary School, who went on to win the Consolation prize.
The eventual OFSAA champion was St. Mary’s Catholic Secondary School, the GHAC champs.
