News from the Little Boutique Consignment Store: “Hey everyone! I’m excited to announce that I will be running a children’s clothing donation drive this summer. The goal is to help parents/kids get “back to school” clothing for their school-age kids, as clothing is one of the many costly expenses for parents. With how fast kids grow, it’s also so important to focus on sustainability by donating and reusing clothes when possible. To support this donation drive, here’s what you need to know:-I am accepting school-age children’s clothing only, not baby/infant clothing at this time-Please ensure that donations are in clean, wearable condition. - If you have any extra bins to donate for organizing/storage for this drive, it would be greatly appreciated! - I will be accepting clothing donations for the drive during my regular business hours from now until August 16th at latest. - For those looking for alternate ways to contribute, I will also be accepting monetary donations for the Christmas hampers this year to support lower income families in the community with holiday gifts. If you are in need of free children’s clothing for your family, I will have the donations available for people to look through at their convenience between August 19th - 23rd during my regular business hours. Please contact me if you would like to schedule a private/discreet appointment. After the drive is finished, any remaining items will be donated to the Little Thrift Church in Northbrook. .I hope we can all come together for this initiative, thank you so much for your support.”

Congratulations to Capt Stuart Howes on his retirement! Here is the brief notice: "This evening, we celebrated the retirement of Captain Stuart Howes from Central Frontenac Fire & Rescue with a steak and chicken dinner. This gathering was a small token of our immense gratitude for the significant impact Stu has had on our fire service organization.
We acknowledge Captain Howes' astonishing 41 years of dedicated service. He began his career with the Hinchinbrooke Township Volunteer Fire Department in his high school years and remained a steadfast leader throughout various government structure transitions and numerous department changes.
Captain Howes' leadership and unique training approach in fire pumps, knots, and rescue operations will undoubtedly influence firefighters for many decades.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to Stuart and his family for the many years of devoted service.
Thank you to Prime AAA for their benefit BBQ for Joe Green of Jim's Auto this past weekend, it was a huge success!
It’s back! The 2nd Annual Gear Up for Greatness Hockey Gear Drive is officially on - and they need your help! August 30th, Centennial Park, 9-11 am.
They’re collecting gently used youth hockey gear to give every kid the chance to hit the ice with confidence and safety this season. Whether it’s skates, gloves, pads, or helmets — if it fits a growing player, we’ll put it to good use!
Slide into Hannah Barker DMs or reach out to donate, volunteer, or nominate a player in need.
Thankful of the support from our local businesses and friends, @lennys_deli will be there serving up fresh goodies, breakfast and coffee.
Because every child deserves their shot at greatness.

Our very own “Smitty” dropped by to donate some funds to our Arden Legion. We truly appreciate his generosity and that of so many kindly folks.
Hope folks are hungry for fantastic fundraising pancakes by donation this coming Monday Aug. 4 from 8am- 1030am at the Henderson UCW Hall in aid of Henderson United Church. Invite your family home for the long weekend and come on out for a munching visit over pancakes and let the church do the cooking and clean up! Come and have a few Henderson hoots while helping our church serve God, pay the hydro bills, offer weekly worship at 8:45am, along with weddings, funerals, student ministry training, and all the while honouring our ancestors who built our church many years ago now.
Our Pine Meadow people had a galloping good time with their latest cleverly designed game of “newspaper horse races”.
Deepest sympathy to the family of the late Audrey Goubault who at one time lived on Hungry Bay Road and was active in our churches, community and area. She died at Heart of Hastings Hospice in Madoc where she received outstanding care.
Our historical folks hosted author Steven Manders who offered informative shares on logging, lumber wars, and information about the early railways, canals and roads of this area. Manders, who has traveled our area with a metal detector, offered many historical and cultural insights to all in attendance at the Kennebec Hall.

It is never too early to grab your tickets to Music Night. On August 21st The Tritones will be performing. In their words: “Sometimes we call our music "Barn-jazz", since a lot of it was conceived in a barn. Even though now a quartet, we still are the Tritones, named for the unholy flat 5th interval - Kiefer McBride, Franc van Oort, Cam Gray and Andy Williamson. Cam and Franc have played together in various bands for over three decades. Along the way our music tended more and more toward Jazz with its more adventurous chord progressions.
PLEASE let us know if you have news or items of interest to share. [Alice is threatening to make up stories and we don’t want to go there].

Sydenham & District Lions Club Voluntary Road Toll on Saturday, August 2nd, 2025 - 9am to 1pm. A Sydenham & District Lions Club's annual Voluntary Road Toll fundraiser located at the Wheatly & George intersection, with George St as collection area. We thank you for your continued support!
In case you didn't know: The fine folks at Mike's Pizza and More, along with members of our community like yourselves are helping Jay Dearborn. We’ve been off to a great start with our fundraiser! Thanks to everyone supporting and if you’ve e-transfered money for tickets, they are in your email! Just wanted to take a minute and remind everyone what we’re doing. One of our neighbours, Jay Dearborn, from Yarker is working toward representing Canada in his second Olympic Games this February in Italy. If you don’t know his story, check out his website at jaydearborn.ca and it explains just how expensive it is for our athletes to compete. There is very little support for our athletes and a lot of money comes out of pocket. We are having a draw, which will be August 15, which is growing every day. I actually have had an incredible amount of support so there’s likely another draw in September in the works!
As for our current draw, tickets are $5 or 3/$10 and can be purchased at either store, send me a message, or etransfer This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. with your name and phone number and I’ll send you a pic of your tickets. Think of how cool it will be in February knowing we did our part to help represent Canada!
The prize for this draw, and I’m still waiting on a couple things to get dropped off which I’ll add, but currently are: 24 -473ml refreshments from Mackinnons; Mackinnon Brothers Straw hat; Mackinnon Brothers Sweatshirt; Mackinnon Brothers T-Shirt; 2- Back 2 the Farm Tickets; 2- Beer Steins; Mike’s Pizza Carhaart Hat; Mike’s Pizza T-Shirt; Mike’s Pizza, well, Pizza!; 2 more Back 2 The Farm Tickets, (Thanks Rebecca Smith!) Thats 4 tickets total! And a couple more items im waiting on to add. But, the current prize is well over $500 .
Also, remember 100% of this goes to Jay and as well, we will be donating a portion of every Canadian pizza or Canadian slice sold directly to support him!
Beats By The Beach – Final Event! Don’t miss the last event in our summer series! Join us on August 16 at The Point, Sydenham from 1-3 pm for live music by Whiskey Smoke — a high-energy country duo serving up all your favourite 90s country hits. As canning season approaches, gardens are coming into full bloom. Be sure to share your bounty with those who are not able to garden. It's been a challenge for myself personally this year between the high heat and Bambi enjoying grazing.
Stay cool, everyone. Happy civic long weekend... Summer is flying by.
