Only two more sleeps until our finally final blow out yard sale in aid of Henderson United Church this Sat. June 21 from 8am until noon at Henderson Hall. Come and set a spell with us, and buy your brains out!
Our church neighbours at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church in Flinton are hosting their church yard sale on June 27, 28 on site at 3529 Flinton Road, so let’s take a gander up there too.
Congratulations to our own North Frontenac neighbour and friend Betty Hunter on receiving the 2025 Senior of the Year Award in North Frontenac in recognition of outstanding contributions that strengthen and protect our communities. Rock on Betty!
Henderson United Churches Cemetery service, held under the trees on site, was a true tribute to Father’s Day and to our Heavenly Father. Some who attended “from away” included Angie Deline ( who has a birthday this week!), June Gendron, Doug Bridgen, Shirley, Becky and Michael Conner, Mona’s daughters Trudy and Amy who placed flowers and a flag on their uncle George Gaylord’s grave, Dave and Lynn Clark, Bryan and Irene Smale, Al and Marilyn (Veley) Osborne , yours truly and spouse, Sheila Deline and a few others I missed checking up on. There were 25 gathered out under the trees in a meaningful service led by our own Sarah Hale- whom we love to pieces!
Our Kennebec and District Historical Society folks offered a fantastic sharing and evaluating process on site at the South Frontenac Museum which is of course funded by their Municipality. Folks are chatting over the fence and on the bush telephone about a possible Municipally funded museum in our Central Frontenac Township- possibly in a building that combines history with the needed library at Sharbot Lake, or in a vacant firehall, all of which would house artifacts from existing “societies including Kennebec and District Historical Society, Oso Historical Group,Central Frontenac Railway Heritage Society and a Parham online historical site and any other existing groups. The sky’s the limit!
I’m suggesting a municipally funded collaborative approach as a worn out baby boomer whose health is declining. Us “boomers” who specialized in volunteerism/fundraising/community and church support don’t want to create an albatross for the next generations, who through no fault of their own aren’t numerous enough to “carry the torch” forward. Birth control, and other liberations for which we boomers fought and negotiated resulted in less folks “to help” and this worn out volunteer whose health is diminishing appreciates, and admires the next generations highly but doesn’t want to leave them a legacy of expectations. So let us persevere trusting in another (of your choice) to guide us all. This approach will aid us all to pull together, to go beyond existing religious and historical barriers and blaze a trail.
