Sydenham High School – Isabella (Bella) Thake
Bella Thake has been a consistent high achiever academically at SHS, posting 97% averages in all four years at the school. She also has receivd early acceptance into the University of British Columbia Bachelor Science Programme.
She is also an active participant in the school community, serving on student council all four years and as the Co-President this year. She has been integral to school events, from school dances to spirit weeks, to grade 9 orientation.
“She is a true change agent, looking at every opportunity to better the community,” said the letter that the school sent to the Limestone Board with her student achiever nomination.
She was also part of the school's mental health team.
As an athlete, Bella was the captain of the girls’ sarsity hockey team this year, and past captain of the jr. girls basketball. team. Over her time at SHS, she has played for eleven teams in five different sports, and earned her coach’s recognition in varsity hockey as well as mvp in softball.
“Bella approaches every situation with a kind and friendly attitude, ensuring that those around
her feel respected and included. Above all, Bella’s efforts always make life at SHS a better
place for her peers and staff,” SHS staff said in the letter to the board.

Granite Ridge Education Centre - Hallie Hearns,
Hallie earns has accomplished outstanding athletic achievements. She was consistently at the top of her class, earning subject awards in many subjects and the proficiency trophy for grades 9, 10, and 11.She plans to become a teacher, and to that end she has completed several co-op education placements in elementary school.
She has an artistic ability she has expressed on stage, on canvas, and in the kitchen, successfully completing in skills competitions at the local and provincial levels.
“She is friendly, approachable, and willing to listen to the ideas of her peers, while also
letting her competitive nature shine through on the badminton court, softball field and while
baking,” said the letter from GREC staff to the Limestone Board in support of Hallie's Limestone Achiever nomination.
As a Parham native, naturally she has been a Parham Fair volunteer ever since she was a young child, and has been key to the merchandise sales effort of the fair and a fisture at the tie-dye station in recent years, while entering, and often winning, the Homecrafts Competitions. She is also a Hinchinbrooke Recreation Committee volunteer.
“This degree of community engagement that Hallie has displayed is not only commendable, but also
exceptional for a person her age, and we hope that she is as proud of herself as we are,” said the staff letter.
North Addington Education Centre - Sophia Borger
Sophia has had incredible academic achievements, maintaining an average of above 95% during each year of high school Each year, Sophia has won academic awards, including academic excellence awards in all classes, and the Lester Achievement Award for highest academic average. She will be going to Queen's in September, in the Civil Engineering program.
She was the school council President this year, and helped organise the Terry Fox Run at the school, as well as numerous sporting tournaments, chess tournaments, spirit days and holiday celebrations.
Sophia’s involvement in school life extends to athletics, where Sophia is a member of every
team at NAEC.
“Not only can Sophia perform complicated calculus calculations and dissect organisms to learn of their anatomy, but she can also work with AutoCad to run the Plasma Cutter, use V-Carve Pro to run the CNC router, change the oil or tires in a vehicle, and use construction equipment to design beautiful epoxy furniture,” said the nomination letter from NAEC staff to Limestone Board.
Sophia balances her roles as a student and athlete, with a busy school year and summertime
employment schedule at Hooks Castle, Skootamatta Tree Farm, and the Mazinaw Lake Swim
Program (MLSP).
