With great sadness we announce the passing of Harold Edgar Chatson in his 83rd year on August 21 2025 surrounded by his wife of 57 years, June (Morgan), and his four children.
Harold was born on November 9th 1941 in Denbigh to Herbert and Alice (Hughes) Chatson. Harold’s life was a life well-lived, built upon the foundations of family first, and community building both through his haulage and excavation business and his active involvement in municipal politics. Harold served as Reeve of Denbigh Abinger and Ashby Townships, the Warden of Lennox & Addington County, as well as on the Board of Lenadco and on the Land Division Committee. He was a source of wisdom and humour for all—those who knew him best recall his sharp wit, his affinity for practical jokes, his mischievous smile, and his love for his family. He enjoyed travelling, most recently to Alaska, often to spend winters in Florida, and twice for an all-summer trailer camping trip to the west coast of Canada with stops at all of the provincial parliament buildings along the way with four kids under ten years old. An annual favorite was the trek to the Chatson hunting camp.
Harold will be forever in the hearts of his children: Mary (Bryan Joyce), Ken (Sheri Brown), Anne (Wayne Lawrence), and Bill (Todd Ormrod) and grandchildren: Jessica, Eric, Jakob Lawrence, Duncan Joyce, and Rowan Joyce. Harold is pre-deceased by his siblings: Herb Jr., Lenora Umpherson, and Francis. He will be missed by his sister-in-law Sherill (Herb Jr), nephews Michael (Lenora), Paul (Herb Jr), David (Herb Jr), and niece Peggy (Herb Jr).
A special thanks to the ever kind, caring, and supportive Village Green staff, PSWs, nurses, and residents who we consider extended family.
Viewing will be held at Wartman Funeral Home in Napanee on Sunday August 24th 7-9pm and Monday August 25th 11-12, immediately followed by the funeral at 12 noon in the Wartman chapel. Donations in lieu of flowers appreciated to Parkinson’s Canada and the Village Green Resident’s Council (contact Pierce Elliott at 613-388-2693).
Your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure.
You are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure.
