1943-2025
Jane Kline, born Eleanor Jane Simonett, died on Sunday August 3 in Kingston, Ontario, after a brief illness.
Born in 1943 in Kingston to John and Nina Simonett, Jane was raised in Sharbot Lake. She attended high school there and spent summers working at Camp Oconto in Tichborne. Following a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education at Queen’s University, where she played varsity basketball, she graduated from teacher’s college at Western University. She taught Physical Education and coached basketball in London, Ontario before she and her husband Randy Kline raised a family in Whitby and then Tweed, Ontario.
Jane spent the latter half of her life in Tweed enjoying the curling club, her exercise group, her book club, as well as her family cottage on Mazinaw Lake. In addition to supply teaching in the area, she also volunteered as a reading tutor at Tweed Elementary School. During their 55 years of marriage, Randy and Jane were excellent travel companions and dancing partners. At home, she was a devoted gardener and lover of animals, including her cat Sam.
Jane is survived by her husband Randy, brother John (Judy), her children Sally (Brad), Chris (Jennifer) and Katherine (Shawn), and her grandchildren Emma and Jack.
A celebration of her life will be held at the Tweed Curling Club on Tuesday September 16 at 2-5pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Tweed Public Library would be greatly appreciated.
