Dec. 27, 1946 - Dec. 23, 2024
John (aka Bam Bam/Bammer) served for 33 years as a Firefighter with the Hamilton Fire Department. With many commendations, he was known for his strength, resourceful thinking and quick humour.
He performed many acts of heroism and was affectionately called “the Jaws of Life” for tearing doors from a burning vehicle to free victims and he crawled under a car, using his body to raise a tire up so that a child could be rolled out of the wheel well. He was also a well known fixture, on off hours, as a bouncer in a few local bars.
He loved working on vehicles in his spare time and his wit was legendary! Born in Hamilton, Ontario adopted by the late Jack & Ruth Gaylard, he will be sorely missed by family and friends as follows:
Sister Linda (late husband Gerald Robinson), Angus and Malcolm (Nephews) Son Mark Gaylard (wife Tala), Daughter Cynthia & Granddaughter Ema & Grandson Josiah
Current Wife of 20 plus years, Lynn, extended family Trevor, Erin (husband Jaimie) Aiden, Nathan, Kylie & Darrian (Grandchildren)
Friends so numerous, they can not be listed but you all know who you are!
There will be no immediate service. There are two celebrations of life being planned for later 2025 for which notice will be sent out at the time.
