Donald Lawson Gowdy, at age 86, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 23, 2024, with his beloved and devoted daughter Sherry at his side. Born on February 6, 1938 in Portland Township, to the late Willett and Evelyn Gowdy. Donald was known for his hardworking life, love of farming, and dedicated career with MTO. Donald was predeceased by his first wife, Pat, with whom he shared many happy years and raised their family. In his later years, he found companionship and joy with his loving partner, Lorna. Donald is remembered by his daughter Sherry Gowdy (late Erwin Hirschbeck) and his sons Joe (Lisa), the late Rick (Marilyn), also survived by daughters Angela Perrett, and Betty-Ann (Bill McFarlane). He shared a particularly close bond with his grandchildren Brayden, Madison, Danielle (Sean Preston), and his great-grandchildren Charlotte, Eleanor and Atticus who brought him immense joy. Donald also cherished time spent with his grandson Tyler and great-grandsons Kayson and Hunter. He will be remembered by his other grandchildren, Amber, Sarah, Zac, Krissy (Ed Goodfellow), and Jennifer (Brad Hodgins), Terry, and Tanya each of whom brought their own moments into his life. He is also remembered by 11 other great grandchildren. Deeply missed by Lorna’s daughter Sandy and grandchildren Adam and Michael. Donald’s love extended to his beloved cats, Jake and Jesse, who were constant companions and brought him comfort and joy in the last few years. The family will receive friends to pay their respects at Payne Funeral Home, 178 Main St., Odessa on Tuesday, November 26th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., and on Wednesday, November 27th from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. A Graveside Service will follow at Harrowsmith Cemetery at 1:30 p.m., with a reception immediately following at the Golden Links Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Kimmy Fund at Almost Home or the Rebekah Lodge in Harrowsmith would be appreciated.
