Passed away, peacefully, surrounded by his family, September 25, 2024. He was 83.

Born in Calgary, March 2, 1941, the second of three children born to Richard and Maud. While a teenager, his family moved to Edmonton. There he became best friends with the younger brother of his future wife, Elinore.

Barry and Elinore married September 8, 1962, Elinore’s birthday. They spent the first nine years of their marriage in St. Albert, a suburb of Edmonton, where they had two children, Wendy and Troy. Barry started his career as a teenager working at Safeway in Edmonton. He became a union steward and eventually became a union organizer in western Canada and the U.S. A series of promotions saw him move from Edmonton, to Calgary and finally to Ottawa, where he became the Director of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union (UFCW) for eastern Ontario. Barry retired in 1995 and maintained his ties to the UFCW by joining the board of trustees overseeing their benefits plan.

Upon retiring, Barry and Elinore moved to Sharbot Lake. Barry enjoyed an active lifestyle of boating, snowmobiling, perfecting the art of winemaking, and working in his vegetable garden.

He enjoyed a busy social life maintaining ties with friends he made throughout his life. In 2008, he and Elinore started spending their winters in a retirement community in Arizona, where they made new friends and had good times forgoing the cold Canadian winters.

Barry is survived by his daughter Wendy (Raymond) and son Troy (Christine), and his grandchildren: Aidyn, Ryan, Nathan and Aimée. He is also survived by his brother, Roy.

He was preceded in death by his wife Elinore, his sister Carol, and his parents, Richard Baily and Maud Purcell (née Fulthorp).
