Peacefully in his home on September 25, 2023 at the age of 72 Ernie Koostachin passed away after his battle with cancer.
After 26 years in Sharbot Lake Ernie will be missed by many people whose lives he touched.
He will always be remembered by his friends and Support Workers at Community Living North Frontenac and especially missed by Gerald, Ann, Grace, and Sarah Guigue who welcomed him into their family over the years.
Ernie was born Cree from the community of Attawapiskat. During the 60’s he resettled into the southern Ontario region. Ernie came to live in Sharbot Lake and was adopted by The Algonquin Shabot Obaadjiwan First Nation community.
A special thank you to Dr Bell, Lindsay Lowery, staff at the Sharbot Lake Family Health team and Saint Elizabeth Health Care Services for supporting Ernie during this difficult time. These amazing services allowed Ernie to spend the end of his life in the comfort of his own home.
A celebration of life will be hosted by The Shabot Obaadjiwan First Nation Cultural Centre on Hwy 7, next to the White Lake Fish Hatchery, on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at 11am.
