With family by his side, Mel, in his 80th year, passed away at Lennox and Addington Hospital in Napanee on Monday March 4th, 2019 from a long and complicated history with cancer. Beloved husband for 54 years to Fran (pre-deceased). Dear father to Wendy (Robert) Burk of Brampton and Stephen Alyea of Cloyne. Grandchildren Rachel Burk, Lucas Alyea, Jesse (Chelsey) Alyea and great grand children Grace and Myles. He will be sadly missed by his sister Shirley (George) Post and brother Elmer (Mary Jo) Alyea and his in-laws Barb (Dale, deceased) McClaren, Dorothy (Ray) Wicklam, Sonya (Norm) Woods, Paul, deceased (Carol) Johnson. Fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews and a wide circle of everlasting friends. Mel & Fran co-owned and operated a self made business in Toronto from 1969-1995 before retiring to their beloved second home on Mazinaw Lake. Mel loved to fish and hunt but was particularly passionate about snowmobiling. He was the founding President of the Mazinaw Powerline Snowmobile Club and served enthusiastically for over 20 years. At Mel’s wishes cremation has taken place and now a visitation and luncheon is planned for Saturday May 4th, 2019 from 11am - 2pm with a Celebration of Life Service at 2pm.
