North Frontenac Mayor Gerry Lichty took to social media this week to share the long awaited news that the Rogers Cell Tower just south of Cloyne, is up and running.
The tower will enhance telephone service and cell-based Internet service in the Hwy. 41 corridor.
The tower was constructed as part of a cell gap coverage project that was organised and managed by the Eastern Ontario Regional Network (EORN).
Since being elected mayor of North Frontenac, Lichty has been a member of Frontenac County Council, one of the member municipalities that makes up EORN. The Cell Gap Coverage project leveraged federal and provincial grants, in addition to smaller grants from member municipalities, to create a business case for cell phone providers to expand coverage into more remote regions of the province. Rogers Communications provided the winning bid for the contract, and has provided matching funds to complete the project. The Cloyne tower will enhance service, for Rogers customers in the first instance, in both North Frontenac and Addington Highlands, as well as visitors to the region.
“It has been a long time coming, Lichty said in his post, “and I thank everyone for their patience and understanding.”
