I would like to thank the organizers of today’s Remembrance service in Sydenham - the event was well organized, well presented and very moving. I was pleased to see a number of children there and the vast majority were well behaved and listened to what was being said.
However, there was one small boy who was allowed to run around amidst the adults, and at one point ( during the two minutes of silence) was kicking a stone around…..I totally understand that getting small children to stay still is difficult, but surely this was a perfect opportunity to help children to understand that at times you have to do something that is difficult, and that running around is very disrespectful.
I am sure that many people will dismiss my comments as being from an old fogey, but Remembrance Day is, and should continue to be, an occasion when we reflect on the horrors that war has inflicted on humanity.
