So good to hear that Meta is removing its news content from Facebook and Instagram in Canada. After years of Facebook sponging off of mainstream media like television channels and newspapers, Canadians can be thankful that Meta is voluntarily abandoning its theft of professionally produced journalism which has done so much damage to legitimate news gathering and democracy everywhere.
It remains to be seen, however. if Meta continues to facilitate the many shady and sinister outlets of misinformation which currently find willing accomplices on platforms like Facebook and Instagram.
So far, there is little evidence that Meta will choose to mend its ways and further government legislation may be required in order to identify and reveal the dark forces and money (often foreign, as well as domestic) which continue to disseminate falsehood, incite hatred and promote political subversion in this country of the kind that became evident during Justin Trudeau’s recent visit to Belleville.
