A short ferry ride from downtown Kingston will bring you to Wolfe Island, the largest of the 1000 Islands, and a hidden gem in Frontenac County. Located where Lake Ontario ends and the St. Lawrence River begins to flow into the Atlantic its landscape boasts abundant river and city views, agricultural landscapes and spectacular sunsets. The ferry, which accommodates cars, pedestrians and cyclists, brings you just outside Marysville is where most of the population of the Island is centralized and embodies a friendly small town vibe. Cycling is a popular activity on the Island with routes covering the entire 124 sq. miles of the Island. Other popular activities include, birdwatching, golf, and fishing, as the waters surrounding the islands are full of various fish species including bass, walleye and northern pike. Big Sandy Bay is also located on the Island and is one of the great beaches of Lake Ontario. Wolfe Island also hosts a variety of cultural attractions including the Wolfe Island Gallery that showcases fine arts and artisanal creations from the many artists living on or with connections to the Frontenac Islands.

A stroll through downtown Marysville offers a selection of cafés, bakeries, shops and restaurants as well as homey bed & breakfasts and the recently renovated Hotel Wolfe Island which hosts live music nights featuring some of Canada’s most respected musicians. You will find a carefully curated selection of local goods at Fishtale Shop and a visit to the end of the Island will bring you to Wolfe Island Hopyard where they grow hops used in locally produced beers working with local breweries to significantly reduce carbon footprints. Crops, beef and seeds are also farmed on Wolfe Island and at Kitchen Table Seed House you can find a variety of organic seeds grown specifically to better perform in our regions climate and soil. Haymaker’s coffee is a family run roastery located on the Island that is inspired daily by the beauty of their location and specializes in small batch, single origin microlot coffees available to order through their website and specialty shops.
