With the addition of our social worker Jen Bergman and our dietician Melissa Conrad over the past few months, we are now fully staffed. Congratulations are due to Janice Morrow who recently achieved her certification as a diabetic education nurse. There is a shortage of health care providers across Ontario for all three of these positions. We are fortunate to have attracted these three outstanding individuals to join our team.

The new building is “almost” complete other than plans to improve the handicapped access ramp and front entrance, adjustments required to get the heating system to respond to the thermostats etc.

Our new facility includes a multi-purpose room with a planned capacity for 40 people. It has a small kitchen, two handicapped access washrooms and an adjoining clinical examining room as we hope to use this room some day to deliver rehabilitation services. We decided to call it the “Community Room” as we hope to see it get lots of use by the community. The space is ideal for meetings, workshops, educational activities and other group events. Although we would like to give priority to activities that relate to health and social services in the community, we are open to hear from any group or individual who would like to express an interest in using this space. We have asked our “Community Advisory Committee “ to help us prioritize the most appropriate use of this space and develop a modest user fee to help cover cleaning and maintenance related to its use.

If you are interested in using this space, please make a written submission to Gail Hawley-Knowles, our program manager, at Box 70 Sharbot Lake K0H2P0 or email her at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

For groups, it would be helpful to know the size of your group, who is eligible to be a member of your group and whether there is a fee charged to participate in the activities of your group.

Thanks for all the community support that has been the key to success in developing this amazing facility.
